    Name: Gary Charson

Q: Where in NOAA do you work now?
    A:
W/OM22, Office of Meteorology, Silver Spring, MD 20910.

Q: When did you begin your work with NOAA?
    A:
Before NOAA, December 1966, WSFO Cleveland, OH.

Q: Looking back, what events stand out as the most memorable during your time with NOAA?
    A:
Two of the five times I received NOAA Unit Citations. The first was for Hurricane Agnes in 1972 when I worked 20 hours a day as the Delaware River Basin service hydrologist at WSO Trenton, NJ. The other was as the service hydrologist in Ann Arbor, MI for the state of Michigan when I worked 40 days in a row during a period of extended severe flooding. I also get a lot of satisfaction from knowing that I chaired the LDAD requirements group from 1992 - 1994. I tell people that I am LDADS DAD.

Q: From your point of view, what have been the most significant changes NOAA has experienced during the past 30 years?
    A:
The impact of the new technology.
