Name: Richard Hagemeyer
Q: Where in NOAA do you work now?
A: I am the Director, NWS Pacific Region and stationed in Honolulu, HI
Q: When did you begin your work with NOAA?
A: I began in November 1950 as a chartist in the Weather Burea-Army-Navy Analysis Center at Weather Bureau Headquarters (24th & M NW) in Washington DC.
Q: Looking back, what events stand out as the most memorable during your time with NOAA?
A: Certainly these would include the dissolution of the old Weather bureau with the creation of ESSA and the creation of NOAA which, with the addition of the Bureau of commercial Fisheries and the later Coastal Zone Management Act, changed the agency from strictly a scientific agency to a scientific/regulatory agency.
Q: From your point of view, what have been the most significant changes NOAA has experienced during the past 30 years?
A:
Certainly the most significant came with the change in character of the agency with the creation of NOAA. Another would be the loss of Bob White and Jack Townsend as the head of the NOAA management team.
