Q: Looking back, what events stand out as the most memorable during your time with NOAA?
A: Four tours of sea duty, particularly:
1. Hydrographic surveys in SE Alaska and Kamishak Bay AK
2. One particular North Pacific storm in early 1973
3. First command at sea, NOAA Ship PEIRCE, 1980
4. Last season at sea, NOAA Ship MT MITCHELL, 1988
And, thirty years of being an element of a uniquely talented, capable, dedicated, and effective organizational entity, the NOAA Commissioned Corps.
Q: From your point of view, what have been the most significant changes NOAA has experienced during the past 30 years?
A: A tremendous increase in the politicization of what was a fundamentally scientific and technical service organization.
