Name: Ann Sharp
Q: Where in NOAA do you work now?
A: NOS/OCRM, Office of the Director
Q: When did you begin your work with NOAA?
A: I started working with NOAA when it was first established
in 1970. I was working for the Department of the Interior, Bureau of
Commercial Fisheries, which was the predecessor to the National Marine
Fisheries Service. My first job was working in the Director's Office
for NMFS as a secretary to the Executive Director for Marine Fisheries
Advisory Committee and my immediate supervisor was Fred Bilik.
Q: Looking back, what events stand out as the most memorable during
your time with NOAA?
A: My most memorable experience was in 1976 when I was riffed
out of NMFS and accepted a position as secretary to the Deputy Assistant
Administrator for Coastal Zone Management. My supervisor at that time
was Richard (Dick) Foster. Then when Dick retired in 1979, he created
an Upward Mobility position for me as an Administrative Assistant.
Q: From your point of view, what have been the most significant
changes NOAA has experienced during the past 30 years?
A: I think the most significant changes during the past 30 years
is the computer technology and internet capability. Also the many new
leaders due to the various reorganizations.
