Q: Where in NOAA do you work now?
A: For the past ten years I've been a hydrologist at the Office of Hydrology, Hydrologic Research Lab in Silver Spring, MD (SSMC2).
Q: When did you begin your work with NOAA?
A: I started as a meteorologist intern Dec 29, 1968 at the Weather Service Office (WSO) in Fort Wayne, IN.
Q: Looking back, what events stand out as the most memorable during your time with NOAA?
A:
- Providing numerous weather briefings to pilots.

Provided river forecasts of record flooding on the Souris River in the mid 1970s.

Implemented NWS River Forecast System in two River Forecast Centers.

Designed and developed a simple flash flood forecast program for fast response streams and used in many NWS offices and local emergency response agencies.

Designed, developed, and implemented the first nationally supported software to compute flash flood guidance in the MWS River Forecast Centers.

Assisted the North Central River Forecast Center in providing river forecasts for the Flood of 1993 in the Midwest.
Q: From your point of view, what have been the most significant changes NOAA has experienced during the past 30 years?
A:
- Implementation of AFOS to replace teletypewriter communications.

Capability of the RFCs to run their hydro forecast models on a central computer facility.
- Implementaton of the WSR-88D doppler radars.

Introduction of workstation computers at NWS field stations to replace the central computer facility Implementation of AWIPS to replace AFOS.
