At that time, the office was growing and developing and more inclusive. We clericals went from Royals electric typewriters to the more sophisticated IBM Wheelwriters and to the use of computers around 1983. The teletype equipment was discarded and the personnel were trained as Met Techs and began using the new AFOS equipment. Non-tech personnel were introducted to weather - a meterologist used to explain the cloud formation, and how to get forecasts from the AFOS machines. All were invited to the everyday weather briefings - questions were solicited. In some areas, the start of Upward Mobility. The downsizing of the office by the creation of EASC limited the scope of our office - from approximately 100 plus personnel down to 45 persons as of today.
Also, we have finally started using AWIPS. Hopefully, this new system will do 75% of what they want it to do.
