Name: Nancy J. Weslager
Q: Where in NOAA do you work now?
A: National Ocean Service/Aeronautical Charting and Cartography/Aeronautical
Chart Division/Instrument Approach Procedure Chart Branch.
Q: When did you begin your work with NOAA?
A: Started in the visual drafting unit in December 1968 and moved
to the instrument approach drafting area one year later.
Q: Looking back, what events stand out as the most memorable during
your time with NOAA?
A: Dropping the Coast & Geodetic Survey name. Many in the agency
were sad to see that dropped due to its historic background. Another
significant step was the computerization of the system to track our
work and create our indices in October 1978. More recently we have begun
to do charting with computers and utilize GPS which allows many more
air fields to have instrument approaches now.
Q: From your point of view, what have been the most significant
changes NOAA has experienced during the past 30 years?
A: In instrument charting, the world we live in and create in
is constantly changing and adjusting to new technologies so I am constantly
learning new things as time goes on. It keeps things interesting.
